The government has decided to close all public and private universities across the country starting today in order to save electricity and fuel amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
According to the Ministry of Education, the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday has been brought forward, and all universities in the country will remain closed from Monday (March 9).
This information was announced in a letter issued on Sunday (March 8) by the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education.
The letter stated that in order to address the current global situation, it is essential to conserve electricity and fuel at the national level. To ensure responsible behavior from officials and staff of public and private universities, several measures have been instructed. In line with directives from the Cabinet Division and considering the holy month of Ramadan, all universities will remain closed from March 9 until the scheduled Eid-ul-Fitr holiday mentioned in the academic calendar.
The letter also included several guidelines for saving electricity in universities. These include avoiding the use of electric lights during the daytime if sufficient natural light is available, turning off lights, fans, and air conditioners when not necessary, and maintaining air conditioner temperatures at 25 degrees Celsius or higher.
Additionally, it stated that when leaving office rooms, all electrical appliances such as lights, fans, and air conditioners must be turned off. Unnecessary lighting in corridors, stairways, and washrooms should be avoided. After office hours, computers, printers, scanners, and all other electrical devices must also be turned off.
The letter further instructed institutions to avoid unnecessary decorative lighting, limit the use of vehicles, and practice fuel-efficient usage.
